Discover the Hidden Charms of Kamishichiken—Experience the World of Maiko, an Immersive Music Performance, and a Luxurious Dinner
This tour offers an exceptional opportunity to fully enjoy the unique culture of Kamishichiken, one of Kyoto's most historically and culturally significant geiko districts. While many foreign travelers may associate Kyoto's geiko with Gion, Kyoto actually boasts five distinct geiko districts, with Kamishichiken being the most traditional and committed to preserving its rich heritage. Join us on a guided exploration to uncover the hidden gems of Kamishichiken, and indulge in a lavish experience featuring visits to historical shrines, an immersive music performance, and a sumptuous dinner.

The tour begins with a stroll through the Kamishichiken area, guided by an expert who will provide in-depth explanations of the district's history and the “machiya” traditional townhouses frequented by maiko. As you explore these historical buildings, you will gain a deeper understanding of the essence of geiko culture. During the walk, you will also visit a renowned local confectionery shop to savor traditional Kyoto sweets that have been cherished by locals for years. Additionally, at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, you will experience the solemn grandeur of the shrine’s main hall and the serene atmosphere of its grounds, offering a profound sense of Kyoto’s history and culture.

The climax of the tour is a special immersive music performance at the Kamishichiken Kaburenjo Theater. The performance begins as a story unfolds from the lobby, where cast members in traditional attire greet you at various locations. You will become part of the performance, with the entire venue transforming into a stage that immerses you in its world. The performance is divided into two parts: the first features traditional elements such as taiko drumming, koto, and Japanese dance, while the second presents an original suite themed around “living,” combining various genres for a captivating experience. Top Japanese musicians and the local orchestra will deliver a remarkable performance that will leave you spellbound.

After the concert, enjoy a special meal in the theater's courtyard. Here, you will sample regional sake and “obanzai” Kyoto-style home-cooked dishes while being treated to the hospitality of active geiko and maiko.

This tour presents an unparalleled chance to discover the essence of Kamishichiken. Experience its rich history and culture, enjoy an inspiring concert, and savor exquisite cuisine for an unforgettable memory in Kyoto.
