A Special Evening Immersed in Kyoto Culture: Maiko Hospitality, an Emotional Music Performance, and a Garden Dinner
For many international visitors, when thinking of Kyoto's maiko, the Gion area might come to mind. However, did you know that Kyoto is home to five geiko districts? Among them, Kamishichiken, located in the northwest of Kyoto, is the most historically significant and prestigious. In this traditional district, local culture and customs are still preserved, and experiencing the hospitality of maiko and geiko at a Kamishichiken teahouse requires a local introduction, as the "no first-time visitors allowed" culture is still carefully upheld.

We are excited to present a special event opening this world to the public: an immersive music performance at Kamishichiken Kaburenjo Theater. From the moment you step into the lobby, the story begins, with kimono-clad cast members and actual maiko and geiko present at different locations, integrating you into the performance. The entire venue transforms into a stage, drawing you into its world and naturally guiding you to the main hall.

The performance is divided into two parts. The first part features traditional "Wa" Japanese arts, including taiko drumming, koto and Japanese dance collaborations. The second part presents an original suite composed specifically for this performance, blending various genres of performance under the theme of "living."

Throughout the event, you will enjoy high-quality performances combining traditional instruments with modern elements, including local orchestras, top Japanese musicians, taiko drumming, koto, shamisen, Mongolian throat singing, choirs, Japanese dance masters, professional and local student dancers, and traditional sword dance.

After the performance, savor a specially prepared dinner in the mystical garden of the Kaburenjo Theater. Enjoy the hospitality of active maiko and geiko while tasting carefully selected sake and traditional Kyoto dishes prepared by local chefs, immersing yourself in Japan's rich culture through its flavors.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience the traditions and culture of Kamishichiken, and enjoy a memorable evening with maiko hospitality, an emotional music performance, and a garden dinner.
Kamishichiken Kaburenjo Theater

Kamishichiken Kaburenjo Theater is located in Kamishichiken, one of the most prestigious “Hanamachi” Geiko District. This area is known for its emphasis on tradition and prestige compared to other Hanamachi districts, and plays a central role as a place for geiko and maiko to practice and perform. Held in spring and fall, "Kitano Odori" is a renowned event that showcases traditional dance and music, allowing visitors to experience Kyoto's deep cultural heritage. The architecture of Kamishichiken Kaburenjo Theater is also beautiful and symbolizes the historical atmosphere of Kyoto.
