Sencha Tea Ceremony Experience rooted in Zen Thought 【With a ticket to the National Museum】

Unlike the Matcha tea ceremony, which uses Matcha powdered green tea, Sencha tea ceremony uses leaf tea and brews it in a teapot.

Although rooted in the same Zen philosophy, around the 18th century, Matcha tea ceremonies became increasingly formalistic and focused more on "objects" such as bowls and utensils. Intellectuals who objected to this idea found Sencha tea ceremony as a way of tea that is not bound by form. For this reason, Sencha tea ceremony does not put unnecessary emphasis on the tea room or utensils, and values a free spirit and refinement.

Sencha tea ceremony developed through a wide range of discussions on philosophy, beauty, crafts, and other topics over a cup of tea without any formalities.

The "Tofukuji Exhibition", which is held near the experience location at the "Kyoto National Museum", one of the only four national museums in Japan, is also themed on a famous Zen temple. The tickets included in the set will allow you to see and experience the culture of Zen, and to learn extensively about it!

*Only the "Special Exhibition - Tofukuji" can be viewed from 10/7 to 12/3, as no other exhibitions are held during the biannual special exhibitions at Kyoto National Museum.
*Tofukuji Temple is one of Kyoto's most famous Zen temples, known for its autumn foliage and beautiful fresh greenery. It is also home to many paintings and Buddhist statues of national treasure value, indicating that Tofukuji was a very prestigious temple that received support from the state.

*Kneeling on tatami mats is unnecessary.

*Visiting the National Museum is not limited to the day of the Sencha experience, but can be done at any time during the exhibition period (Oct. 7 - Dec. 3). The tour takes approximately 1 to 2 hours.

・The experience may be canceled or postponed at short notice, or the content may be changed due to traffic conditions, etc.

・Free of charge if canceled up to 3 days before the tour date, 50% 2 days before, and 100% the day before or on the day of the tour.
